How to pass the Hesi PN Exit exam, I made a 1085!

As if nursing school isn't stressful enough... try not knowing what to study for a huge test! I just took the Hesi PN Exit exam yesterday and needed a 850 to pass, but made 1085!

This is how I did it... forget everything you have learned or heard about studying. I have a terrible memory, but my technique worked!

First (if you are taking the Texas Hesi PN Exit exam) you must have the right book. I used: amazon.com sells it cheap. I got mine at school :(

HESI Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-PN® Examination 3rd Edition. Do all of the questions on the CD that it comes with & read (skim through) the book. Take notes on the things that you think you probably won't remember. Keep everything in one notebook and categorize the subject. Then, the back of the book has normal ranges for labs & electrolytes...make flash cards for these. Get a good knowledge of medication category such as suffixes (ex: lol = beta blocker) and know your blood pressure & heart medicines. Study long before the day of the test arrives.

The night before the test, I went to bed at about 9pm. I woke up at 4am, got dressed & ready fast (showered and dried hair night before, didn't apply make-up). I then looked at all the notes I had, and looked at all of my flash cards. Then got to school at 7:30. TAKE EAR PLUGS! Take a bottled water, and pencil/paper. Know your basic MED ADMINISTRATION/nursing math. I hope this helps! Last thing, if you have access to Prep-U, do questions on there as well.

Thank you! I do not have to take the Exit HESI until August 2013 but I will be sure to remember this. I usually make stellar grades in all of my classes, passed the Fundamentals HESI with a great score but bombed the Nutrition HESI required by my school with a lackluster score, so it really made me feel an inch high. I was surprised because I am really strong in Nutrition but I guess I wasn't as strong as I thought. So I've been really hitting my books harder than ever. I just really do not want Nutrition to be my downfall ever again. They say Nursing has its way of delivering those coup de graces. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the information, I am scheduled to take my 1st Exit HESI for the PN Program the week of July 29th 2013, my School allows 3 attempts at this test, and we need 850 or better to pass it.

It is my prayer and desire that I pass this test on the 1st attempt. My LPN Program is over mid September 2013.

If I understand your post correctly, I need to use the HESI Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-PN Examination book? Is that correct? I am in Ohio; my book is Edition # 3.

How often did you do the questions on the CD? How long before your HESI was scheduled did you start studying for the Exit HESI? I just started my last term, so I need to figure out a study schedule so that I can study for my classes as well for the EXIT HESI.

So I posted back in December about my failure of the Nutrition HESI. I am proud to say that I came back and passed my last 3 HESI's with flying colors. I had a Med-Surg HESI in April that I passed with a 979 (850 is required.) We had a second Med-Surg HESI in May that I passed with 1063, and a Pharmacology HESI that I passed with a 1059. I take my Exit HESI on July 22nd. I am so excited, I feel as if I am going to be very successful on that HESI also. My school DON says that these HESI's are predictors of success on the NCLEX. I'm very excited to see how I will triumph over this one.
