How much would you pay for school

Hello, this is my first post! I am currently on three different lists for LVN and RN programs here in Cental cali. They are all lottery based and it's nearly impossible to get in. I have applied to a nursing school in the virgin islands , University of virgin islands in st croix. It's gonna cost me about 25,000.00 for tuition, housing and meal plans. My family thinks I'm crazy but I think it's worth it since I'm just sitting around waiting! (1 1/2 yrs of waiting!) What do you guys think. How much would/or did you pay

Hi,

My nursing education cost me a total of $8,000, that was for a BSN. The first school to accept me was a private university which would of cost about $20,000 yearly in tuition alone, but a BSN wasn't worth that much to me. If I wasn't accepted into the state university, which was $91 per credit vs $500 per credit at the private university, I would of done the community college route and RN-BSN. I wasn't about to get muself in $40,000 plus worth of debt for any degree. It's just very hard to get into the public state universities since nursing is a limited access program there.

Good luck

Wow thats a lot. I go to a state univ. in ny and when i was living on campus i paid $6,500 a semester which included tuition, housing, and a meal plan. $25,000 sounds like a lot, but how long is that for? is that for one year or a 2 year program or a 4 year program?

How much does a new vehicle cost these days? How long do they last? A degree is forever. By the time I'm done with my BSN I will have spent that much money, no doubt about it (and that's a community college ADN with years of pre-reqs combined with an in-state on-line RN to BSN).

Let's see, it's going to be a 1 1/2 year program. I've been waiting for a year and a half now. I'm 26 and feel that I need to finish soon! I mean, I think I'm getting really depressed by all of this. By the way, this is for a ADn program, not bachelors. But here is my logic, I live in california so IF i got into a ADN program here, it would take 2 years. With living expenses, (food/rent) and tuition it would cost about 18-19,000.00 for my adn. When I can live in the caribbean for 21-25,000! Also, I wouldn't be going in broke, I have the money for all my expenses already and would take out a back up loan if I can't find a decent job out there. I guess it's just a matter of patience? Should I sit around and wait for some lottery to pick me up or just do it and move! Thanks for all the replies by the way!!!

I do not start my program until Fall 06, so I can't comment on the dollar amt you will be spending. Have you considered any other schools? I'm not sure why you think your only 2 options are your current waitlist and UVirgin Is. I would at least visit the school and talk to some of their nursing students before making a commitment. Good luck!!

That is a wonderful way of looking at it. What would you sepend on a new car? Spending that much on your nursing degree should be okay.

I may have to shell out $37K for my direct-entry MN program. I will take whatever program that takes me. I would prefer something inexpensive, but I'm not too picky anymore.
