I had a guy in DTs last week and he was getting quite a bit of sedation. I was chatting with the intensivist and sort of venting about how I felt like I was trying to put down an elephant. He told me that when he was in residency there was a guy in DTs who was on an Ativan gtt at 50mg/hr and that the county actually ran out of ativan....???

We switched over to valium IV for ETOH withdrawal and we even sometimes use ketamine drips (like they do with burn patients).
