How much homework in nursing fundamentals LaB class?

Published

It's my first year of actual RN classes, and there is one class called nursing fundamentals that has a four hour lab twice a week. Is there homework for this class? What is it like? I ask because I'm thinking of adding Sociology online class if i'll have time. So far, I've signed up for Fundamentals of nursing plus Lab, and Dosage. That amounts to ten hours credit. But what Lab class like? Homework? Will it be similar to my CNA class? Thanks.

last i remember, cna is a short program--about a month. your rn course will take years. there is no similarity between the work required in the cna class vs. the rn program. every rn program has different requirements but there can be some similarities. fundamentals of nursing will cover what you learned as a cna plus meds, injections, med math, nutrition, teaching, and papers/presentations. go through you fundamental's book and see if the information presented there is similar to your cna program and note the new info. fortunately, you have had cna training. this is helpful.

homework for your clinical. some programs have separate classes for the didactic portion and for the clinical portion. some programs do not--the classes are combined into one. in my clinical it was a separate class, and our homework was our careplans. normally we would go the day before, pick out a pt, and write up the care plan. your 4 hour lab class means you will be in the clinical facility 4 hrs a week. in my program. we would meet at 6 am and discuss our patients and the day would start at 7 am with report. some professors will try to teach in the pre clinical 6 am meeting or at the end of the day. some professors won't; they are as happy to get out of clinic as the students.

only you know if you have enough energy or time to take the sociology class. i often saved my gen ed classes for summer when i had no classes.

There was no homework for any of our lab classes. Our labs consist of skills demonstrations and return demonstrations.
