Does anyone know how much agencies usually pay per week or per month on extended-stay hotels? It seems like the best thing for my situation, but only if it is discounted. I can't/won't pay $300 per week that these places advertise. And also, does anybody recommend a specific hotel? Or have you had any good experiences with other living situations?

$300 a week? That is just about as low as it gets. You can certainly ask your agency about special rates. You should get the same rate they can get if you tell the hotel that you are their employee. Many agencies get third parties to supply housing such as Med Temp Housing or Travelers Haven to find and supply housing and you can use them directly. Turnkey furnished apartments are generally much more comfortable and much less expensive than extended stays in my opinion.
Thanks, NedRN... What have you found to be the best way to find these turnkey furnished apartments?
If you want to do it the easy way, try the companies I mentioned. Even easier is to just let the agency take care of it, but I assume you are hoping to save a portion of the housing stipend. Everyone has their own thoughts about housing, and some do go for extended care housing. Personally, I like to find even less expensive housing by looking at house shares and other opportunities I find by using Craigslist and other resources (usually local to the assignment resources). Part of my own issue is finding housing near enough to the hospital to bicycle to and seldom does that happen via other methods. I have had very memorable housing and usually well under $1,000 a month, even in high cost areas. It is a lot of work and hassle, but the rewards for me are well worth it.
