How much chemistry do MOST schools require? Is 8 hours enough? For my BSN I will be only required 8 hrs chemistry. I think Intro to Chemistry and General Chem I will suffice for that requirement. Will that be enough for most programs? I know it varies by program, but for those of you already in, how much chemistry did you guys have?
Initially I was planning on taking Gen Chem II and Org Chem I and II, but if I don't have to I won't. Save some time and $$.
Thanks

Some of the schools in my area want students to take two semesters of Chemistry, but at each school it's different; some want BioChem, others want Organic Chem, but most want Gen Chem. Personally, I don't think anyone can go wrong with Gen. Chem. 'cause it seems to be the most popular requirement that I've heard of. Usually, 8 hrs seems to be enough.

I think the more chemistry the better but I think you need, bio, organic and inorganic to be well rounded. Physics is definitely a plus as well.
Wow, I'm sure biochem, organic, plus physics will make a well rounded applicant and will definitely look good on application. All those would put me back 1-2 years though. When I'm ready to apply, with 1 year of gen chem only, I should have the minimum requirements. Probably not the best application compared to others but at least the minimum. If I don't get accepted then I can spend the next year beefing up my application. Does that make sense?

The most common requirement I came across was 8 hrs total, to include inorganic chemisty and either organic chem of biochem. No need to kill yourself taking all those unless the school you want requires it.

My school has a course called Health Science Chemisrty. Its general, organic, bio, and inorganic all in one class.(and yes it will make you want to bang your head into a wall) You have to take 2 semesters of it, 8 credits total. I actually dropped the class because I didn't understand ANY of it. Too bad it will probably keep me from getting a BSN.
NO Chemistry = ASN, not BSN

I'm not quite sure where you are but here in Illinois I had to have 12 semester hours of chemistry for my BSN program. And it drove me to :beercuphe drink.
The BSNs I'm looking at only require 4 hrs of general chemistry! The one I really like is all online, done in 2 semesters, 30 credit hours. (texas tech health science center)
Any other chemistry I take will be beyond that.
