How to meet CRNAs, in real life...

I have absolutely no experience in the health field, and am only at the point of working on getting my BSN. But I would love to meet some CRNAs and have no clue how to go about it. I called the local hospitals about 6 months ago and asked if they used the services of CRNAs, and was told no, they do not. Recently however, I met a lady in my lifespan psyc class who worked as an EMT before deciding to become a nurse, she too is interested in anesthesia. Anyway, she told me that she met CRNAs at the hospitals here while working as an EMT. When I called the hospitals I spoke to the human resources department, thinking that they would know, their response was not delayed. In other words, they did not have to think about the question, as if they did not know the answer.

So my question for you all is this: How in the world do I find out if CRNAs are used by the local hospitals, and if so, how do I go about meeting some of them?

hi, i am an rn and i applied to crna school hopefully i will get in for next years class, anyway if i were you i would try to get a job in a hospital, as an aide or unit secretary, just to get your feet wet, i am sure you will come across a crna if the hospital employees them, when i went to school i worked as an aide just to make sure it was the right job for me, good luck, keep your gpa as high as you can sincerely nec

Look in the phone book, under anesthesia groups. Many CRNA's are group employees rather than hospital.

you could also call your local hospitals and ask for the anesthesia department because many people don't know about CRNAs and the people you talked with might have been some of those.

You could contact the ANA and ask if there is a CRNA that would mind being interviewed. I think you can find thier address on the internet.

I volunteer at a hospital and met (outside of the hospital environment) a CRNA who works there. I agree with the other posts--try and get a job at a hospital, or volunteer at one, and then ask to visit other departments. Luckily, I was able to observe this nurse anesthetist yesterday during a surgery. It was very cool.
