How many RN's would go the BON about MA's

Published

Just woundering, how many RN's would be willing to write their BON about the need to regulate and give scope of practice for MA's in the medical feild ?

MA's don't fall under the jurisdiction of the board of nursing in any state I've lived in...

I haven't heard of it, either, but, I think that maybe it should. If they have a jurisdiction for CNAs, then, I don't see why not. It is already causing an uproar, it is not regulated, and, maybe, just maybe, they can have more of a variety of places to work, and then, nurses can better govern their practice. It seems to me that when nurses work with them in private practice, there is a conflict, because the MA worked under the physican, yet, the nurse has her own license, but may be responsible for what they do. It will not make them nurses, but it may be easier for nurses to be responsible for them.:twocents:

I'm guessing I just don't understand the problem you're having; I'm certainly not aware of any uproar or even any disharmony.

The Board of Nursing's jurisdiction over CNA's is brought to you by the letter "N".

Also, you, as an RN, might have your own license, but if you boil it down to it's essence, it is essentially a license to follow physician orders. We don't have the market cornered on ability to follow physician orders and I doubt we ever will.

Bottom line, in this profession, is that you are never responsiblefor actions taken by someone else. You might be held accountable for their actions if your role is to oversee said actions. You are neither responsible nor accountable for the actions of another person that you do not supervise.

MA's as far as I know don't come under the BON. However, the state Department of Health should have jurisdiction. I would check with them if you have trouble with an MA. Something I ran into is an MA tried to give me telephone orders. I told her I had to talk to the MD himself or to the nurse in the office. I do not take orders from someone not licensed to either give the orders or to transmit them.
