How many people quit or flunk out of NS vs graduate?

What is the ratio of success in NS? Do a lot of people quit or flunk?

I think it really depends on the individual schools. Some will have better ratios than others.

at my school, last semester 30 people (out of a class of about a little over 100) failed physiology. A few others dropped out as well

Flunking out is rare in my program - then again, everyone has at least a BS or BA in another field and decent GRE scores, so the academics themselves don't pose a problem.

I found that we lost a lot of people, by their own choice and by not passing, the first year of the program. Now that we are in second year, we have not yet lost anyone else (crossing my fingers). Some students choose to transition out and get their LPN, and we have LPN's that come in to bridge over to the ADN program, so numbers are pretty level now.

The numbers vary widely from school to school. Some schools do a very good job of screening their applicants and only admit those who have a high probability of graduating. Other schools accept most people who apply, give them a chance, and then live with high rates of dropping out and/or flunking out as those people discover that nursing is not for them.

It's a question that every prospective student should ask a school before they invest in becoming a student there. Too many people ignore that and only look at NCLEX pass rates. They don't ask "how many who started the program actually graduate on time?"

Our school is highly competitive, and has a reputation for being harder than other schools in our area (but I don't know if there is any truth to that)

We started with 100, were told day 1 that less than 40 would graduate. More quit than fail in our program, but a lot do fail. We have 24 in our semester with us that are repeating the semester, most of them had 74-76% which is an F, but so so close to passing. My poor friend had a 76.3%, and they would not round it up to a 77%, I would rather fail with a 50% than fail by .2%
