Hi everyone!
I am currently working a full time day job and go to school in the evenings. I was wondering if you could tell me how many classes you take if you work full time as well? I don't want to overload myself, but I do feel as though I can take more than 1 class at a time.
Thanks!:)

:wink2: Good question! I won't be working when I start school, but I'd like to know how many courses are the average too.

I just have Nursing 450 and nursing 451. It's 11 credit hours. Nursing 450 is my Theory IV and Nursing 451 is my clinicals and Clinical Seminar. I only go to school one day a week this semester but it's 8:00am - 2:50pm. Right now I have my leadership/preceptorship and I'm almost finished with my 111 hours.
I forgot to add that I don't work but I'm married to a very busy man who is gone 1/3 of the year with Army National Guard Reserves and work and I have two busy children who have after school activities.

I don't know what the average is, but I'm taking two classes right now, chem and A&P. I've found it to be do-able. A&P is a lot of memorization, so I tend to carry around flashcards, etc. and study when I get free moments. Chemistry is more sitting down and working out problems, so that is something I need to do where I can spread out, either at lunch or when I'm at home. I could probably do three courses, but it would mean that pretty much all of my free time would be taken up with studying and I like to have some down time (I don't have a sig other or kids to worry about, but still like to have me time). I would recommend starting out slow... you can always ramp up later if you find it's a breeze, but better than getting in too deep and not doing as well as you could have.

I'm taking five classes for 19 hours this semester (second semester, Med-Surg clinical) and working one part-time job and playing in a busy music group. I don't have kids, but I do have a bf who is just going to have to deal with being neglected for a few more weeks.
I find that the busier I am, the more productive I am. If I had too much free time, I would start being lazy and would probably not be doing well in my classes.
But it's individualized. You have to know your own breaking point, and where you draw the line between being busy and being overwhelmed. If you feel like you can take more classes, than take more classes! It's easier to drop a class in the middle of the semester than it is to add one. :)

In my program, if you have all the pre-requisites done and the co-requisites done (A&PII, Micro, Eng 102, etc), it's 11 credits per semester. I did all my non-nursing classes before going into the program and work two 12-hour night shifts at the local hospital.

I also am going to school in evenings, work FT job and 3 children. I am currently taking 13.5 hours - Fundamentals and A&P. It's also very do-able. I only go to school Wed and Thurs evenings and every other weekend, so plenty of time between classes for studying. I also have 12 hr clinicals on the weekends.
Good Luck!
