How long does it take to receive Ontario RN license?

Published

I passed CRNE which was held on June 3rd.

I got my test result and application form for registration on July 16th.

I mailed everything on July 18th, and CNO still has not charged my application fee from my credit card. Anybody got any idea? I have to wait for the RN license to apply for jobs.

Many thanks.

The CNO is the biggest nursing regulatory body in Canada. They have all the new Ontario grads, nurses coming from other provinces, nurses from other countries and nurses who must resubscribe to deal with.

You can call them to ask if they have everything they need but don't be surprised if it takes a month or more for everything to come back approved.

You don't need to have your license in your hand to apply for jobs. Having your notification of passing the CRNE and your assurance that your registration is pending should be good enough for most employers. We have grad nurses working on our unit who were hired and working LONG before June 3, never mind before they had their registrations in hand. And here in Alberta they really get hosed... they have to pay for their initial registration in July and then have their renewal paid for by September 1, unless they choose to wait and only register in September. (On our unit that means that they have to be resourced for the entire time until they have their registration; we have a long list of procedures grad nurses cannot perform. It tends to make their coworkers a little sour to have to give all their push meds, hang their blood, sample their CSF and so on when they have their own work to do.)
