How long for a share day?

Hi all,

I am looking for a job and while I'm an experienced nurse, it's been a while between job searches.

When you do a "share day," how long do you stay?

And for experienced managers, does a nurse who stays longer seem to want the job more? I'm a practical person; I feel like 2-3 hours tells me what I need to know. But I'm open to learning I'm wrong!

What is a share day?

After the interview, the hiring manager says, "Would you be willing to come in for a share day on the unit?"

One of them told me it was typically 2-4 hours...but I tend to do less than 4 hours and am just wondering if that hurts me. I have gotten one job offer but not gotten 2 others. Not sure if they are reading into my share time length or not. Like I said, I make up MY mind after 2-3 hours.

So you're shadowing? Sorry, never heard of a "share" day, I assume it's not a hands-on thing because you don't work there yet. No, I wouldn't think the length would make a huge difference if you're given a range; just as you have made up your mind after 2-3 hours, they probably have too.

My share time for the job I have currently was four hours. I think that showing up on time and staying for the entirety is more important than staying extra, as is showing interest in the job and asking good questions, seeing if you blend well with the staff, etc. This is the kind of stuff my manager likes to know after I have someone do a share day with me.
