How is the job situation?

Published

So I am wondering if any current or soon to be LPNs can give me a little insight as to the job market for LPNs now.

I realize that the chances of getting hired at a hospital atm are slim- I am alright with that.

But how about Doctor's office, LTC, nursing homes etc... Are you finding work outside the hospital environment? Have you had to move out of your home state, did it take many months to find a job?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Im supposed to be graduating in another month and Im very worried about the job situation as well. Im not hearing a lot of postive feedback about jobs right now. I plan on applying to extended care facilites.

Specializes in Rehab.

graduated in jan 2012 just took my boards and passed a week ago out of 40 places i callled only 8 were hiring new grads new licensed lpns and im in philly but the shocking thing was that the majority of these places wanted 6 months to a year for lpn and rn new grads,so my head is held high

keep my updated, Il be grateful for anytype of expereince, LTC, nursing home, whatever.

I got my License in December.... and I work in a assisted living facility. They are pretty open about hiring new LPNs and all my peers in nursing school are now working in a Nursing home. I had quite a few interviews with doctors offices, but always got a final answer of choosing someone with more experience.. But I think it is possible, just might take longer to find position in Doc office. And I live in VA. So I would just keep on applying, there are two girls from my class that still don't have a job as a LPN, because they have given up on their job search. So one has stopped looking and is working at a restaurant, so I think that is ok while your waiting, But Please don't lose faith and quit looking all together, that sort of defeats the purpose of becoming a nurse!

Awesome, I may have to consider a move to VA. May I ask, if you plan to do LPN-RN or LPN-BSN, does the employer pay for any of the program or that is all out of pocket?
