How to interview a nurse leader

Specialties Management

Published

I am struggling with this assignment where I have to interview a nurse manager/leader/supervisor other than my own.

I will have clinical next week in a big magnet hospital, would it be strange if I walked up to that floor's supervisor and asked him/her if I could interview her? Would they be offended if I asked them kind of last minute?

I am not sure how to go about doing this politely.

Thanks!

What school do you attend? This assignment sounds very similar to one I did in school?

They may not be offended, but I would also not expect them to be able to accommodate you at the last moment. Customarily, and basic politeness dictates that you would contact them, ask permission, and then set up an appointment.

Pretty much every BSN program requires an interview with a nurse manager.

I applaud the OP for actually making an effort to interview a manager in real life, instead of requestion a lazy "faux interview" here, which is what a lot of students do.

I don't see any reason why they would be offended, I sure wouldn't be. But they may have trouble finding the time to do it on short notice.. that may be your only problem. All you can do is ask. :)
