How to increase chances of landing a job?

Published

Hello all,

As so many of you , I am on the job hunt for my first nursing job after receiving my NJ license in November. I was wondering what would be the best thing to do to increase my chances of landing a job? Since money is tight... should I get my ACLS certification online or apply for a new license in another state (New York) ?

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Are there jobs in NJ that require ACLS? I would start there- NY is no better, as far as the job market goes.

Job market in NYC is horrible. I am an experienced RN and I only got called for 3 interviews and got no offer of job despite having great credentials, experience and interview. Manager said "i do not have experience on the exact same specialty unit" however these hospitals hired new grads with zero experience at all and new grads from far away states (not NJ or CT as these are basically NY area... but Indiana, Ohio, Etc! Like really, there are NY area new grads and experienced RNs that need jobs and they are hiring new grads from far out states or even international new grads! Its crazy. Better stay in NJ...prospects there I heard are a little better than NYC. U can try Buffalo NY...jobs are easy to get for new grads too and its a city in case u want urban life.

Thank you both for your input. Many places say having ACLS certification is a plus. So I think im going to get that first. And Yes NYC is saturated with so many nursing schools the job market is tough
