I am a Licensed Practical nurse in MA. I have not practicing as a nurse for a time. Where can I take a refresher course in GA in order to be licensed in GA?

Luckily, there are several courses for you.

Refresher Course

The Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) approves LPN refresher courses, including 40 hours of online study and 160 hours of clinical study. These courses are intended for LPNs and RNs who have an active Georgia nursing license but haven't practiced for a while or who have a license in another state but want to apply for a Georgia license.

Here are a couple found in a Google search, but please ensure that the Georgia Board of Nursing approves any courses you consider and the course meets their licensure requirements.

Review their curriculum, duration, cost, and any prerequisites or requirements. Ensure that the course covers topics required for LPN licensure in Georgia and that it fits your schedule and budget.

Here are GA BRN's approved educational programs for LPNs:

Application

Apply for the refresher course. Once you've identified a suitable refresher course, follow the application process outlined by the course provider. Be sure to complete any necessary paperwork and provide any required documentation.

The following checklist is from the Georgia Board of Nursing. Links are included in the checklist below, but I suggest you work directly from the site. The application fee is $75.00.If you have an active LPN license in MA, apply for endorsement if:

  • You are moving to GA, OR
  • You live in a non-compact state (MA is a non-compact state) OR
  • You are not eligible for multistate licensure in your home state.

Before submitting your application:

  • Background Check: Applicants should register with GAPS/Fieldprint on the same day as submitting their application for licensure. Please see the linked instructions.
