You can glans the content in one go, then again read the same passage or content and note down the important points on a note book. You will have the clear understanding of the content in this way and your mind will catch the key and important points like this. Once you will write down the important points on a note book it might help you out to retain as it did in my case when i was a student.

in my experience, the more you learn above and beyond what you have as that base, things will make more sense when you can actually apply them. whether that be to clinicals or even to what else you are learning in each class.
it will come!! it always does!

1. Read your assignments ahead of time---Write brief (really short) summaries of the chapter readings. Use the sheets for your FAST FACTS guide. :typing
2. Review your lectures notes the same evening afterwards for 10 - 20 minutes to keep the info "fresh in your head." Some students read their notes on their bus/train rides home.
3. Invest in a review book (NCLEX or specialty---med-surg, ob/gyn, peds, psych) which contains review questions with answers AND rationales. The rationales explain the underlying principles for the correct answers.
4. STUDY FOR EXAMS IN ADVANCED (minimum: 2-weeks) High GPA students will start 1-MONTH IN ADVANCED studying approximately 20 or more review questions a day.
5. Network with students with high GPAs for study group sessions.
MUCH SUCCESS AND MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU!!!
(P.S...Another thing ... if YOUR HOME environment is not a feasible place to study (re: family, distractions, other responsibilities, etc,) ASSIGN YOURSELF STUDY HOURS at the school's/public library. Often, I had to do this in graduate school in order to keep myself away from the television. )
