U.S.A. California

Published

My names Stephanie and I am turning 20 this month, and I need to do something with my life, and I always wanted to be a nurse. My cousin who is younger then me just got her CNA, and I want to get mine now because she said it only takes a month and it doesnt cost that much. I was hopeing somebody could tell me were in California, preferably in Apple Valley area or VictorVille I can get my CNA. And I also wanted to know if I could get it done for free or get a special loan. And how much it normaly costs.:D

i checked into the Golden Hills program and the website states that their CNA classes have been suspended until early 2010, :( booooo! Im totally bummed, but oh well. I should have already started my LVN program by then or i would look at doing it.

thanks for the info. though!

:( That's too bad.

But I found this while browsing online and thought of you :)

BlueChick112,

I live in the East Bay as well and am looking into a facility-based CNA training program. I called 20+ centers listed on the CA Dept of Public Health's website but to no avail.

Could you please let me know which places you looked into that offer free CNA training if you agree to work for them after you get certified? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

As for Golden Care Academy,

The website still says they will be offering classes in early 2010...I called but the voicemail is full. Sent the admissions director an email and waiting to hear back. Did anyone ever get a hold of them?

Hi!

I live in the East Bay (SF area...) and I registered, completed, and passed my CNA class in a little under 3 months. It started in Dec 08 and I graduated in Feb 09. It was $600 and we met 4 times a week (once for theory/lecture and 3 times for clinical training in a skilled nursing facility), about 3 or 4 hours a day. The place I took it at offers evening and day classes and I believe they start a new class every month. There are also places that offer you FREE CNA training if you agree to work for them after you get certified. I know a couple places around here that have that agreement set up, but since I wanted to work in a hospital I decided against it. There's also a couple programs nearby that are partnered up with local hospitals who hire the top students in the class! Let me know if you're interested...

Hi bluechick112. I live in the bay area too. What school or program did you go to? I want to become a CNA also. I understand you wanted to work in a hospital. As do I. Have you gotten a job and how quick were you able to obtain it? Dd you have any prior experience?

Hey! Actually I never ended up looking for a job as the only reason I did the Cna program was to increase my chances of getting in to nursing school. However I ended up getting in to nursing school and am currently in a bsn program so even if I wanted to work as a Cna, I don't have the time!!! :)

the program I used was through nightingale nursing (there's one in San leandro and one in pleasant hill) and it was probably around $700 for everything. It was expedited too (2 months). However I heard there's a program in Martinez through Martinez adult education center that is teamed up with John muir so that the hospital will hire the top graduates of their Cna program if positions are available. Hopefully this helps!! Good luck!
