I work in telephone triage in La Crosse, WI. There are 2 major hospitals here and both have telephone triage services. The service at my hospital provides triage to the patients that would normally call the clinics as well as providing a "one call referral" service for the Dr's and other providers either wanting to consult or admit a patient into the hospital. Both services really increase our doctor's satisfaction, since they are not taking these calls from patients when they are on call. It increases the outlying area doctor's satisfaction by providing them with help with just one phone call.
I know we are hiring!! It has actually been hard to find people due to it being such a different form of nursing. We get hospital pay, not clinic pay, so the wage is competative, too. Our night shift was difficult to cover, so we hired out the calls to a nation wide triage service, Fonmed. There are nurses across the US and Canada taking phone calls and calling our doctors when need be.
Our hospital presented the benefits to the board of directors and created the triage department from scratch (although the software was there) Maybe if you aren't up for moving, you could pitch for a new department.?!
Good luck and I'd be glad to help!

I am a registered nurse in Southeast Michigan. I really want to get into this area of nursing. I am not having any luck even finding info. on telephone triage in the area. I feel as though it does not exist here. Can anyone help? I would love any info. or advice people have to offer.Thank You!!!
Kubikd,
I live in Southeast Michigan and work as a telephone triage nurse for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. As a matter of fact they are in the process of hiring right now for the 24/7 nurse line. If you go to their web site you will find an area to apply for the RN Analyst I position. Google BCBSM.com and it will bring it up first and there is a link there for employment opportunities.
You can e mail me also for more information.
Good Luck
Intellicare is hiring. This is a home based telephone triage job. There are some nurses that work for Intellicare that live in Michigan. You can fill out an application on their website: www.intellicare.com. Good luck!

I am a supervisor for a Nursing triage call center we are always looking for help. look at all of your large hospitals in the human resources job sites. We have 3 openings now but not in your area. Just be prepared to work after hours, nights and holiday shifts as we are open when the offies are not. be prepared to sit for your entire shift. You might consider keeping your hand in the clinical side with per-diem nursing to keep your skills up unless you aren't ever planning to go back, however even my nurses are certified in specialty areas of nursing and triage. Good luck
