Hello everyone! I am currently enrolled in an LPN program. I am looking towards the future and eventually I'd like to become an RN. If I've been reading everyone's posts correctly, is true that exclesior's program may not be recognized by certain states? If that's correct, could one of you guide me in the right direction on how I would find this information in my particular state? I live in Virginia.
:)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Call and/or email the board of nursing. They are the only ones who can say yes or no with 100% certainty. You may want to check their website as well. Some board of nursing websites address the Excelsior program specifically.

Austeph....I enrolled with EC just after finishing LPN school and recently finished. Virginia does recognize EC. The few states that do not usually will recognize recipriocity if you get licensed in another state. I Belive...someone might need to correct me... GA, CA, KS and IL are the states. EC is NLN appoved and has been doing this since 1975. They are legit and it is up to you as an independent learner to stay motivated and finish the program. But it is doable. If you are in doubt..go to Excelsior.edu and call the nursing division and ask for the state board rep and she will assist you with your plans and state of residence...hope that helps..

Just FYI: California will not give you a license through reciprocity unless you enrolled in EC by December 6, 2003. Georgia will. Illinois requires two years of practice as an RN in another state before they'll give you a license. The situation in Kansas isn't clear so I'd call the BON on that one.
Thank you everyone for your input! I will look into through the BON to verify. Have a great afternoon!:)
