How do I become a mother baby or ob/gyn nurse

I have 2 years ER, 4 months of OR (hated it), and recently started at an urgent care. I have always wanted to work with mothers and babies but I am unsure if anyone would hire me without experience. I had interviews for night shifts but at the time I couldn't accept nights due to not having an overnight baby sitter. I worked nights in the ER and got really sick and developed a thyroid problem. Any advice? Should I volunteer for planned parenthood or do something to show that I am interested in women's health?

Just be aggressive in your search. I literally stalked the nurse recruiter and nurse manager at a hospital I wanted to work at. My stalking paid off , and I'm still on post partum 4 years later.

Honestly with your background you could get hired pretty easily in a larger hospital that is used to training new grads and/or new to OB nurses. You have a great foundation and if I were a nurse manager I'd snap you up. Just apply for the job(s) you want and see what happens. You never know!

They wanted me but only on nights. There are only 3 large hospitals where I live and a few smaller locations. I am going to continue to work in the ER in this state PRN and hopefully slide over to the postpartum units. Do you all enjoy your work?

99% of the time hospitals are only going to hire people onto dayshift that have experience in that area. More often than not, they will just move one of their nightshifters to days.

I understand how hard it is, I'm leaving dayshift med/surg in a month to go to nightshift post partum, and I have two kids. But thats just part of changing specialties. I'm hoping I won't be on nights too long, but we shall see!
