How hard is it to land a very first nursing job with ADN in California?

Published

I’ll graduate with ADN this coming December in Massachusetts.
My husband took a position in California (San Diego specifically) and he is moving there in two weeks.  I’m planning on moving there as soon as I graduate and taking NCLEX there.
I’ve been working as an ER tech for about five years but I’m just curious how competitive it is land a very first job with just ADN.  I’m not really looking for hospital setting, and would rather work in psych/correctional/rehab/out patient/home visit kind of setting.

Historically San Diego has favored BSN grads like most California urban new grad markets, but during these changing times I'd recommend you apply everywhere. Who knows, many staff nurses have left to travel so San Diego hospitals and hospitals all over CA are definitely looking for staff.

Specializes in Ambulatory Care, Community Health, HIV.

I don't think you will have much of an issue getting a job in the specialties you mentioned. Hospitals may require a BSN, but many corrections/ psych/ home/ outpatient companies would consider you I think. Good luck!
