How Hard Is A&P1?

Published

Just a question, how hard is A&P1? I am seriously considering taking it in the fall but would like any heads up you all can give me.

Thanks for your info!

I finished A&PI and the Lab (they are separate classes at my school) with high "A's". I would love to say that I studied all the time, and worked really hard to accomplish that, but I'd be lying. The first few tests I did put alot of focus on, but the test were pretty easy for me.

And if I really think about it, I think the reason I did so well, was that I didn't do what everyone else told me to do--Memorize! Memorizing information isn't really going to help you! Learning the "Why" things happen or "Why" muscles have the names they have makes things MUCH easier to figure out even when your not quite sure. There is alot of information to get through in A&P, but if you really learn it, it's going to be so much better for you int the long run.

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions durring lecture! If you are curious about something I can pretty much guantee that some one else will be wondering the same thing but too scared to ask!

Have a Great Day!

I'm just 2 weeks into it myself, so I don't have a lot of experience to offer. But I will say that I wish I had taken the time to read "Chemistry for Dummies" or something like that.

Hmm.. is there lots of Chemistry in A and P? I ask becasue I took comsumer chemistry in 11th grade ( in 1989) but that is it. We don't need that as a pre req at my school. So will I be lost without it??

Med terminology also helps. When it comes to memorizing some of the words your then able t take the word apart part by part and get the definition.

I took ANP 1 last semester. Not a hard class, but a lot of failing grades! (i shall pat myself on the back for my 96%)...my suggestion, find someone with a syllabus and start doing EVERYTHING on it up until the first test! if you dont get the syllabus, start memorizing the cell, bones and muscles which are usually the first thing. The trick...FLASHCARDS! I believe I had over 1000 if not more. It is very doable, don't get discouraged, it's just memorization. What school are you going to? GOOD LUCK!!!

It is not hard but it is alot of info to remember. I keep telling myself not to think the pre reqs are hard because if they are hard for me nursing will only be more difficult.

I am also only about 2 weeks in, but I can tell you what I have found so far.

Yes, A LOT of people fail the class. My lab is over 80% retakes. I think the major reason people didn't pass it was because they were too busy partying last semester. (this is the reason a few gave me when I asked why they failed).

I have had no problems so far. It has been a ton of memorization but nothing that is hard to understand.

It is all really interesting stuff. Even disecting the rat was so fascinating I could NOT believe I was as interested in it as I was.
