How hard to get a job in Bay area?

U.S.A. California

I have 10 yrs experience. Want to move to Cali. Thank you for your advice.

The Bay Area has the toughest market in the US. Even experienced nurses are having difficulty finding work. My best advice is to secure work before you set a move date.

I know there are always travel assignments in the area. That might be a good way to break into the market.

Good luck!

There are positions out there. They DO exist.

You may need to think outside of the box if you don't land a hospital job.

Try going onto each hospital's job posting site and complete an application. Have your Résumé ready to upload. As an aside, give your Résumé to a someone and count to 20 seconds and then take it back. Ask that person what stuck out the most in that time because statistically, that's about how long someone in HR or a potential hiring manager is going to spend looking at it. People also tend to look about halfway down the page in the middle the most.

You can also sign up for a travel agency and get a contract for a hospital. You can call the hospital and inquire which agencies they use, or you can call agencies and ask who they have current, active contracts with.

There are school nurse positions, county jail positions, back office nurse positions, home health or hospice. Look and you will find.

It helps to get the travel position so that you can evaluate the lay of the land and find what suits you best, in person.

Good luck!

Thank you guys for your valuable input. I may visit bay area as a travel nurse next year summer.

I second the travel assignment suggestion.

Don't call it Cali, it's California.
