I'm hoping to attend nursing school this fall at Seattle Central Community college and I'm trying to get a frame of reference for how hard it is compared to other community college classes. I've taken A&P, microbiology, chemistry etc. Are the nursing classes a lot harder than those, a little harder, about the same? Are clinicals difficult (I did two weeks of clinicals in a long-term care facility for my CNA certification, how does that compare?) I'm really excited about school and I'm expecting to work my butt off, but I'd just like to know going in what to expect a little.
Thanks!

Nursing school is a lot harder than any of those classes. Not only will you need to know A&P inside and out, but you will need to be able to apply it to a patient and the interventions you will be performing. They will most likely test in an NCLEX format which is harder since it is analysis based. Clinicals are time consuming and there is a lot of paperwork. Clinicals can be stressful if you have a rough instructor or really great if you have a nice one. You will be busy studying and will have to prioritize what is important (going out vs studying). I'm not trying to be discouraging, but just realistic. It is doable but I am in my last semester and can not wait to be done. It's a lot of hard work, but it totally worth it. Also- even though it's community college, doesn't make it any easier. You have to take the same boards as those with a BSN, but have less time to learn it. Good Luck!

Thanks! Yeah I'm certainly not expecting it to be easy and I'm absolutely planning to work my butt off. I just wanted to get a feel for it! Congrats on being almost done!

@AnnaKaris,
A bit off subject...
I too applied to SCCC. Did you get an email from them about your application? When did they receive yours?
There were so many people in line at the post office! I'm scared that I wont get in.
Yeah I was there at the post office too on the first at 9:00. I got an email from Cebrina on that following Monday saying they had received the application. I think you'll be okay; I think a lot of people who apply don't have everything in their application correctly or they haven't don't all the right classes and stuff. I'm feeling good about getting in for fall, but we'll see in April!

Don't let some posts here or what people say about nursing school scare you. I have heard how difficult it is and how you won't have a life while in nursing school, to me it is complete BS. Although, I cannot say that is not the situation for some people, but for me I felt like the difficulty of nursing school is greatly exaggerated.
I will say however, you will be spending a lot of time preparing for classes, clinicals and your assignments. Time management is probably the most important thing while you are in nursing school. The materials are not difficult, they build you up block by block so that everything makes sense at the end. Don't get discourage, just go in there with a winning attitude and you should do fine.
I find some of my classmates who seem defeated all the time do poorly and those who seem confident are doing better. Attitude is very important. Sometimes a bad attitude can be what drags us down.
