How hard is it to actually be a nurse at New York Presbyterian?

Hi :)

I'm a 16 year old girl, a sophomore in high school, and I've wanted to be a nurse since I was young. My dream is to work at NYP-Weill Cornell campus. I have quite a few questions and I don't know much of what tests need to be taken so bare with me here!

Would I go to college for 6 years to be RN-BSN?

Do I need a lot of experience? Will I have to wait after I graduate to apply to NYP? If so, how long?

I saw on the new-grad career opening online that I need above a 3.0 GPA. Is a 3.5 good enough or should I just take that step and study more than I do when I go to college?

From your experience or stories you've heard, is it extremely hard to be accepted as a new grad nurse? I don't want to get my hopes up if it's extremely hard... guess I'm lacking self-confidence.

Hi . Very nice to hear that you have some career goals already in your mind . Enjoy your high school years first of all . Concentrate in getting the best grades you can get and apply for a school where you can graduate with a BSN. Nurse residency is highly competitive at NYP, but not impossible . Do extra curriculum activities in HS and college . Volunteer and try to get a job Perdiem as a nurse assistant or nursing extern . You have to be motivated and be persistent . If you don't get in right after school at NYP, don't get discouraged. You can always start somewhere else and then move on to your dream job . Keep up the good work !

My advice to you is to start volunteering at NYP now, I know that the starting age is 16 but somethings require 18 . I say volunteer at about every hospital so they could get to know your face. Keep your grades high and your SAT scores higher. I would also like to say instead of doing a rn-bsn pathway just go straight through and find a BSN program right out of high school.
