How to Happy Job Hunt

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

To begin, Im not even sure I did my resume correctly, is there a special way nurses do their resume? Anyway, I got a book to see how nurses do their resume. Finished my 'nurse resume' and proceeded to go 'job hunt'.

First place I went I had the rudest receptionist ever. It was literally like pulling teeth to get anything out of her........ like getting her to take my resume. All she kept saying was, we're not hiring any nurses. This was in LTC. Next a hospital, the administrator there tells me Im wasting my time and why dont I go back to school for my RN. Great...this right after she asks if Im a new grad. Then she tells me about a job fair they are having but follows this up with "dont bother coming" because she adds if we were to consider you, we want you to have one or two years experience. "You have to pay your dues you know" she adds finally. I went one other place to which the receptionist was polite and kindly told me they werent hiring.

Am I stupid or what, why didnt I even ask for a job applicaton to fill out. No one offered me that. I havent looked for a job in well.... in something like a hundred years. Anyway after all that, I stayed home today and did nothing. I know this isnt good but tomorrow is another day. I will begin my hunt again until I get something. Im confident I will but I just did not expect to hear the discouragement out there.

How to happy job hunt??? The title of this thread should probably be, Happy Job Hunting NOT!!! Good luck to everyone else that is just starting to job hunt.

okay your really scaring me:cry:I am a new grad and will sit for my nclex in late october so I can't even begin looking but I am scared I wont find anything like you,I am in NJ and have not worked in a year so I need to find job ughhhh:banghead: I will be applying to LTC to get some experience I was a MA like 17 years ago and have worked with disabled children the last 5 years{well not this year}so I hope I will have a somewhat easier time

Aww i dont want you to get scared. I began this thread because I really didnt know where to begin or how. You just have to be diligent in your job search and do follow ups . It seems from what my friends have said that you have to bang on doors instead of just a knock and the doors will open because they wont without that bang. The bang meaning persistence and followups. I guess too it's different for everyone. Some have even gotten tested, I havent but then Ive only been on 2 real interviews. One interview was on the spot, i didnt expect that. Also, I thought I was speaking to the receptionist at the front desk, turns out I was speaking to the head of HR. So you never know who youre talking to. Im still learning how to do this. I think I have something now and it hasnt even been a full 2 weeks. So nothing to be scared about. Good luck on NCLEX!!!
