On a sim, there is an order for Furosemide 40mg IV. I looked in my drug book and saw that the large doses (greater then 120 mg) should be diluted to 10mg/mL in either D5W or 0.9% NaCl. Doses smaller then 120 mg are to be given at a rate of 0.5mg/kg/min, while doses greater then 120mg are to be given at a rate not exceeding 4mg/min.
If a man is 75kg then that means that a dose of 40 mg of Furosemide should be given undiluted at roughly 37.5 mg/min.
So I would just draw up the entire dose and give it push over 2-3 minutes?

were told you can IV push it 20mg/min.. so ... 40 would be over 2 min?
ive never head about diluting it in NS or D5 but sounds interesting.

The policy at the facility I did my clinical rotations were to have IV fluids running for every IV push. I think the standard is 1-2ml/min but I could be wrong
