Hello I'm looking for some advice in getting into an ICU. I have experience working in telemetry and cardiac cath lab but seem to get passed up when it comes to obtaining an interview for ICU. I want to work in an ICU so I can eventually apply to CRNA school. I've been out out of school for almost 5years and would like to move forward with my career goals. Any advice would be appreciated.

Luck. Really! I guess first off, don't mention your goal of CRNA. That doesn't benefit anyone but you. Second, it couldn't hurt to have your CPR/ACLS/PALS already done, although I think the hospital should be paying for all that. But, what do I know ... 15 years of cardiac ICU experience and I can't get an interview either, so pfffft!

Biff, I'm sure this has been mentioned to you, but have you tried agency work? Sometimes that can give you an in at local hospitals. In my area, I constantly see ads from agencies for CVICU nurses.
Around here, if you work agency for a hospital, the hospital won't touch you for a year.
