How do you get critical care or emergency room experience?

Published

I'm curious on this. I saw that many jobs say that they want you to have let's say 1-2+ years of critical care experience or they say at least 1 year of emergency room experience, but what do you do to get that 1 year of experience if you're a new nurse? Thank you in advance to taking the time to respond. I appreciate your advice.

Good advice about the tech position. In my facility we've traditionally hired nurses in to the ICU from the med/surg floor, so getting into an inpatient facility is critical. If you can't get a tech job in the ICU then try to get a med/surg job as a new grad and then stay a year and then apply to the ICU.
