I heard A&P 1 and 2 is very difficult and has alot to do with memorization.
I can memorize 200 root words in 5-7 minutes, because I think of a word that goes with the root, and I manage to memorize it quickly.
Do you think I will do ok, I am really worried, I hear people say they studied as much as they could, and they still only managed to get a B or C.
I NEED AN A+
I also have some brain damage in my right parietal lobe, so its hard to make friends and read.
800 Students like me, try to get into the nursing program but only 63 get accepted. I must have an A
What should I do, I am 16 right now, should I start memorizing little by little. By the time I am ready to get into the nursing program, there are going to be 1000+ people applying and only 60 getting into the program.

Memorizing might help you with basic anatomy. I guess you could start with that. You'll want to get a decent textbook though that shows all the bones including all the different little bones of the skull. The physiology is more about knowing how the different body systems work. Our instructor would ask us quite a few questions that had nothing to do with memorization and everything to do with critical thinking skills. You need to be able to think through a scenario with just a couple of facts and a basic knowledge of how several body systems work together to compensate. If you have a reading comprehension issue, this may be a "no go" for you. If you are a problem solver, you may be capable of getting through your A&P classes. Have you taken biology in high school yet? That's just the beginning.
Yea I have taken Biology and Chemistry, but I i might be good at critical thinking. I always prove people wrong to, with true facts, and research. So Hopefully I can get through, I do have a reading issue where I read very slow, but I still get it.
You'll find in A&P you'll have copious amounts of reading. I tend to get really sleepy when faced with 100 pages of non-pleasure reading so I like to use either a study guide, questions at the end of the chapter and words or sections that are already highlighted. When I had trouble understanding a process, I would try to find a video that demonstrated the process. Just a different way of learning. Slow reading won't be a problem.
!100 pages, I got 300+ pages of school work to do every week. I think your right thanks man now I am not worried.

A&P 1 and 2 are only as hard as people make them. For me I went in with an open mind and came out with A's in both classes. Yes it is a lot of memorization, but it's not undoable. In A&P 1 we had to learn the bones, muscles, etc...but it depends on what teacher you have and how he/she teaches the material. I happened to luck out and get great teachers in both classes. Don't let anyone tell you that it is to hard to do and don't get stressed over it. If it was that hard, why would there be so many nurses out there. You can do it. Keep your chin up and study. Take the time to do what you have to do to get that A+. Good luck!

Study study study study study!
A&P isn't just about memorizing, it's also about understanding the material. The best way to get your A is to really focus on what has been presented to you. Focus on the big picture, and if you don't get a concept be sure to ask questions. You also need to verbalize the material. My suggestion is to get in a study group of no larger than two or three people (and that's including yourself).
Don't give up, and give it your all (literally).

I'll say this having once been a high school biology, A&P, and chemistry teacher, paramedic, and current nursing student.
Take a basic biology course again in college priort to A&P to get the cell components and processes down as well as basic genetics.
Anatomy does involve some memorization. You'll eventually feel your instructors out to see exactly how much they're going to test you on. Try to learn all of it, but your freshman level A&P course, in college, isn't going to be anything like the gross anatomy courses taught in medical school so with that in mind you're not going through that much. It's definitely doable. The thing about memorization is if you don't frequently recall the information it escapes, and a lot of it will.
Physiology is the cool part that I like. To get it you need to read it, think about it, and put it all together. There are people (kids) in my nursing classes that I know made A's in A&P but don't have a clue about what's going on in the body, and that's unfortunate. You need this knowledge to understand how the body works, how it reacts as it does, how diseases affect it, and how drugs affect it. I think this is probably the most critical topic in any healthcare field.
So for anatomy, memorize and come up with your own memory hooks to remmeber stuff.
For physiology, think about it. Understand it. Figure out the hows and whys before moving on.

I got an "A" in AP 1, and you must.... you must read, study, read, study, read, study. Also, believe in yourself, if you don't no one else will.... When i first got into college my grades weren't so great. But, the moment I started really studying, and believing in myself... I earned all A's since 2008, it is possible to get an "A" in AP... YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!! :)
Wow guys thanks! I feel much better, and I love asking why this happens or what would happen if this happened kind of stuff!!!
Yeah, me too. I like knowing more than I like doing, lol. I've been thinking about getting a master's in FNP or something, since it adds to what I like knowing, and trying to get a college position teaching pathophysiology, pharmacology, etc.

I haven't taken any A&P, but I will in the Fall 2011. I got a negative A for biology and I didn't try hard because I was taking 3 other classes. What I did was looking at videos on youtube.. I didn't read at all. Actually, I did read, but didn't reread. I think by looking at video, you learn better because when you look at a vocabulary word , you'll form an image in your mind of what you saw. People have different methods of learning. I am going to reread for A&P and look at videos at the same time because it will be a bit harder or a lot harder than biology. I am going to take Basic A&P first. Also, I plan to take basic chemistry. I want to earn B+ or an A for my science courses. :)
