How to follow up after resume submission?

Published

Hello all! I need some advice. I have allowed to an orthopaedic surgery center and I really want this job, from the description, it sounds like something that I would love. I submitted a resume online, and I have called and left a message on someone's voicemail. (I called and asked to be directed to HR). This was yesterday afternoon. Should I call them again tomorrow and just check in and see if they had recieved my app? I am just wanting a shot at this job, I'm trying to stand out. Should I give them a couple of days? Thanks!!

You should have received a confirmation email when your applications was submitted, if they use an electronic online application system.

The leaving a message is most likely as far as you're going to get. More and more HR reps and recruiters are screening calls simply because they are getting tons of phone calls asking: "Have you gotten my application?", "Is this job still open?", "Can I come for an interview?" etc. The recruiters at my hospital specifically state in their voicemail messages that they do not return calls asking about the status of an application.

One call has let them know that you've applied. I wouldn't call again tomorrow. It can take several weeks for recruiters to even start looking at applications. Leaving messages every day is going to make it looks like you are hounding them. Wait a week, and if you haven't heard anything, call again. It's hard to be patient, but it's better than coming across as pushy and having them toss aside your application because they are annoyed.
