thank you sincerely for any advice you have to give. what do you do when your course syllabus states you are supposed to have 48 classroom hours and 84 clinical hours [but only received]30 classroom hours and 65 clinical hours + an alternative research written assignment. the written assignment is on classroom content not clinical content however she stated it is supposed to be worth 2 days of clinical time or 12 hrs which would increase clinical hrs. to 77 hrs.the reason we received only part of our hours is the clinical instructor sent us home at 2:00 on clinical days instead of staying until 3:00 for post conference as we were supposed to. we were also sent home 1/2 day early several class and clinical days, she requested we come in late several classroom days and two days requested we not come at all and required us to take 1 hour lunches on clinical days instead of the 1/2 hour allotted for in our syllabus. my concern now is she has gathered our group together on 2 clinical mornings and stated if we do not improve on our clinical paperwork we are in jeopardy of failing clinicals. she does not give individual feedback for us to know specifically where we stand but only stated this to the group. on our paperwork her comments are only "this is unnaceptable" or "this does not go here" or "this is wrong" but no comments to explain what she does want from us. i even asked her the other day did she feel it would be beneficial to us to stay until 3:00 on clinical days for postcoference. she said no because she felt by that time the day was done we had already finished our paperwork for that day and nothing she could say or do would be beneficial to us at that point in the day after the work was done. i am concerned she already has thoughts of not passing us and wonder how to deal with that considering i feel we were not provided the educational hours that our syllabus states we should receive. do any of you know if the # of hours required in nursing school is a state government requirement or is it just a guideline the schools state in their syllabus to let the student know their approximate hours. the other concern i have is how are we supposed to have a concrete measure to determine if we are "satisfactory" in clinicals? i am trying to think it through somewhat logically if satisfactory is maybe a "c" or an 80 or better then if i have 80% or better of my paperwork correct would that determine satisfactory on daily clinical paperwork? it appears what our instructor states is that we needed to improve on the paperwork. well if i have done 80% correct and 20% incorrect then yes i could stand to improve but i have still met the criteria for satisfactory if you look at it that way. do i want to only be a satisfactory nurse? no!!! and i don't feel i am only satisfactory with my work but in light of our instructor's statements i am hoping for the best outcome but also want to be prepared if i had to face the worst outcome.

A syllabus is a contract between you and your school.
List the things you have told us here, make a list of the specific days you were sent home early, the days you were told to come late, etc., by date.
Make an appointment to go to the head of the department, not the instructor, and be careful to be very matter of fact about what you tell her. Don't complain or accuse, just say you are concerned about the lack of hours, the lack of individual feedback on your paperwork, and want to know what to do to improve. Take a sample with you. Own all your own statements, use "I" alot, don't get into "well, she should have..." etc. Tell her you are concerned about being told the group is failing, and when you asked for help did not receive it. Present the list of days, and say "I am concerned about this", not "look what she did".
Get what I mean? Its not likely her boss knows she is pulling this, CIs are very autonomous.
