So, Im pretty sure I start Monday morning, unless the manager calls me before then. Im on a telemetry/med surg floor. Of course I am nervous...think most of us would be! The orientation schedule got screwed up badly many times. We didnt get the NA portion of orientation yet...wont until the 7th and 8th now. Any tips for the first day or so? Do you just watch someone mostly the first few days/ and when did they let you start doing some stuff? I just hope it goes okay. I dont think there are enough lockers for everyone....dont know where to put my stuff. This one NA brings a bag, and keeps her cell in her pocket (are you supposed to?) I dont know what Im going to do. I guess she said things go missing sometimes GREAT! WISH ME LUCK
We had a little computer training (seems like alot to remember, and you would have to be shown numerous times) It was called SORIAN...not sure if each system has their own computer program or what. Its pretty much where you chart everything about your patients. Did it take you a while to learn the charting? It seems like alot to do, especially if your on days.

My first day I was just paired up with someone that I shadowed, and after a few days the girl training me would give me one or two patients on my own. The first day however I did start doing vitals and other small stuff. I think the best way to learn is to get right in there, because you can watch and watch and watch forever but it's hard to really get it until you try it on your own.
The charting isn't too bad, it looks overwhelming at first but after a few days I got the hang of it pretty well. Every program is different though, so yours could be more confusing but I'm sure youll get the hang of it eventually. Everything seems overwhelming at first.

My first day they showed me how to tell which nurse was assigned to which patient and I was given a hallway of patients. First task was to get vitals and enter into the computer then followed by passing breakfast trays, feeding, bathing, changing linens, answering call bells. I didn't shadow anybody. It was assumed since they only hire people with CNA or medical assistant training you should know what to do.
