Have you looked at hospitalsafetyscore.org? It has scores based on hospitals' safety in preventing medication errors, infections, pressure sores etc. I don't know how you determine a hospital's staff turnover rate and nurse/pt ratios without asking them directly, they would be two good questions to ask at an interview.

Thanks the safety information is a great start.
Is there a place where I can look at the public financial records or the Jacho results or any other statistics on hospitals including suits.
For JACHO or The Joint Commission: Search

each state has their own reporting requirements and vary widely.....here is an example of a good one.....Healthcare in Washington :: Washington State Dept. of Health
Things like lawsuits, infection data, doctor issues are not always readily available and are not accurate for it is not mandated to be reported to any one governing body. State Laws on Reporting HAIs
Medicare Hospital Compare Quality of Care
Staffing plans are not always visible to the public as is other staffing/retention data.

I am a new nurse, and about to start looking for a new job. Before I agree to sign with a company, I would like to do a check on them? I am interested in finding out about their safety policies. For example, if they have any issues with past nurses, what is the turn over rate for nurses, the patient nurse ratio, jaecho violations, jaecho ratings, suits, etc.
Do you know where I would look to get this kind of information? Also, information about the floor would be great, same kind of numbers.
Basically, I am looking for statistics to tell me if the hospital uses safe hospital policy.
I find the numbers really tell a story.
