First of all let me apologize if this has been asked before. I have searched allnurses.com but have not been able to find an answer. So here is my question:
Does anyone know how Excelsior tests appear on transcripts when you ask Excelsior to send transcripts to a different institution? For example: If I take a pre-req exam, does it appear as a grade such as (A, B, C, D, F or Pass/Fail)? I am considering taking a couple of exams but would like to know how they appear on transcripts before I completely decide to go the Excelsior route for my LPN to RN. If anyone has had Excelsior send transcripts for tests taken how do they appear (With a grade or Pass/Fail)?
I have asked the 2 institutions that I am considering applying to their nursing programs how they evaluate transcripts from Excelsior and they have told me to ask Excelsior because they have received transcripts both ways (Transcripts with grades for exams which they applied points to GPA for the grade and then transcripts with Pass/Fail which they just gave credit for but no GPA points. Called Excelsior and they told me to ask the institutions I am wanting my transcripts sent to how they evaluate them. Getting a little frustrated here because no one can give me a straight answer.
Thanks in advance.

Way back in the past, the tests were graded pass fail, but now you are given a letter grade. Only the CPNE at the end, (and probably the other end of course exam, the FCCE(?)) are now graded pass fail. Also the name of the test is listed and the word "test" is not used, so it looks as if it is an actual course you are getting a grade for. HTH (For an example, go to ebay under Excelsior College. There is a picture there of someone's actual transcript for one of the items listed).
Thank you caliotter3. That made me feel a lot better about this journey.
I am going to take the Excelsior test for the pre req I am missing for the 2 programs I am applying to then have the transcript sent and see what happens. However, I am still going to continue to study for the Excelsior nursing exams as a back up plan just so I do not waste time. Call me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

If the EC exam results in a letter grade, that is what will be on your transcripts. I have letter grades for all the nursing concepts, as well as A&P and Micro. My CPNE just has a "P" for "pass," as does my Information Literacy grade.
Interesting thing I just noticed -- my two CLEP exams (Human Growth & Dev, and Introductory Sociology) are listed on the transcript as well, but besides having the "P" for "Pass," it also includes my number score for each (which was great for both, 71/80 and 72/80, respectively). Heh ... because you only need 50 on those to pass, when I was celebrating my good scores, someone told me that anything over a 50 is a waste of time. HA! Bite your tongue, sucker, it's on the transcript! Whatever. I've been accused of being an overachiever -- guilty as charged.
gtlpn24n, which pre-reqs are you going to be taking with EC?

First off, Thank you Lunah for being an overachiever because I don't think many of us could survive this journey without reading your posts. You also give us a good laugh when some of us really need it.
I am missing pre-reqs for 3 hours for Arts/Sciences and 1 hour for Sciences supportive of Nursing. They advised I take College Algebra for the Arts/Sciences because I only have 1 class for Math and ??? dunno for Sciences supportive of Nursing. Any suggestions.
Thanks,
Gina
