How to Deal With the Guilt

Nurses General Nursing

At my job, there just aren’t enough resources and there isn’t enough time to take care of patients the way they deserve to be taken care of. There is an unbelievable amount of paperwork, and we are given way too many patients. I know many other nursing jobs are the same way. I am so tired of knowing that I’m giving crappy care to patients, but not being able to do anything about it. The guilt is getting to me, and I don’t know what to do about it besides getting out of nursing entirely.

Having felt similar, missnursingstudent, what I did was to say, "I'm giving at least adequate care to the patients, charting accordingly, and the unnecessary BS that administrators think is so important will be the least of my priorities".

I could give you a long list of BS I avoided for years at Wrongway Regional Medical Center. I just didn't get good marks on my report card, but I slept much better.

Good luck to you, missnursingstudent.
