I have 2 RN programs near me, both without waiting list. They are both ASN programs. One is accredited nationwide and one is not, they are both accredited through the state.
Does it matter that the school is only accredited through the state? What type of accred. or certifications should I look for when selecting a school?
Thanks for the help!

Is there any drawback in going to the nationwide accredited program? Is that why you asked because you would want to go to the state one?
If its only accredited though the state then if you move you might have to take a few tests in the new state you reside in.
They are both good programs and both state accredited...I just have no idea how the difference will affect my future studies and career.

You could contact the schools and ask what their accreditaion means, and ask the state one why it is not nationally accr. and how that will affect you, esp if you decide to move out of state in the future...
I would go with the nationally accred school. Only being accred with the state kinda scares me...
You can also visit several hospitals in the area that these schools use for clinical and make an appointment to speak with the DON, (Director of Nursing) about how they view the schools. Does the hospital have a preference for one school over another when it hires? Also ask if it would make any difference to the hospital if the school you graduated from was only accred at the state level.
Speak to your future employers, and any graduates from the schools if you can find them. Ask them if they have encountered any problems from graduating from a school which was not accred nationly...

One more thing, consider the NCLEX pass rate too... this isn't always the best way to find a school, but an abnormally low rate should rase some flags..
