Hi everyone i'm a student nurse from Malaysia. I'm currently doing the last Semester of my Diploma in Nursing, and I'm required to do a research. I believe that nurses play an important role in creating sustainable health care, so 'How can nurses go green?' is the topic of my research. Does anyone know where I can find literature eg. research done by others on the same topic to support my research? Because i can't find any.
Does anyone have anything to share on going green??:)
Thanks!:)

Do you mean more environmentally friendly?
Pertaining to what? Their daily lifestyles, or use of tools within their scope of practice?

Yes, more environmental friendly within our scope of practice. How can we minimize the use of resource and reduce the waste, while maintaining the quality of nursing care?
Examples are like requesting for minimal packaging, recycling and so on.

I've submitted a proposal to install solar panels for the defibrillator and hook the monitors up to a wind power device that juts out into the hallway. Then a bunch of mean nurses shot down my idea just because our ED doesn't have any windows, wind or sunlight.

That's a tough question, since nurses have little control over products used by the hospital, etc. The one thing I've tried to do is limit the amount of paper I use (I do a lot of training and record-keeping).
Number one thing nurses can do to 'go green'? Lobby the powers-that-be to use greener practices!
