How can I toughen up?

Hi guys!

I'm starting nursing school in August and I'm slightly worried that I won't be tough enough. I'm very sensitive, easily hurt; I feel what everyone else feels. Will I be able to handle things when times get rough? Are there any other nurses out there like me, and if so, how did you deal with the moments that made you feel more sorrow than you've ever felt before?

Ruby Vee and all who suggested House of God: thank you! I am on a rather humdrum visit to my family's home in rural nowhere. By the magic of the Internet gods I was able to download the Kindle edition and have been reading snippets out loud to my SO, who is not in the medical field. We have snorted and snickered and guffawed....I kept some of the darker parts to myself as he surely would think I've lost my mind or soul....but it was a much needed read for me this week.
