I would like to get into nursing school next Fall! How can I accomplish this? I have all my pre-reqs exept for A&P lab and my GPA is around 3.2. I have not taken the entrance exam yet. This being said, if I get in it would be a long shot. How do I make my application stick out from the rest? What do the nursing schools look for in a prospective student? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I don't know about adding anything that's not asked for. Talk to the counselor at the school and mention some of the things you'd like to add and see what they say. I know our school won't look at anything extra so it doesnt' benefit you. It doesn't hurt to call and check though!

I took the TEAS and was actually suprised with the test. It's not that it is hard by any means but I would DEFINITELY recommend the study guide. I scored well on everything but the science part (not the A&P stuff) it actually made me laugh when I got to the questions because some of them were from 4th 5th and 6th grade science...like...what are the layers of the earth, what are the different names of rocks etc etc...I was NOT prepared for those types of questions at all :) HELLO were nursing students NOT geologists lol...also definitely be prepared with your math skills, they will give you a lot of conversions, percentages, and calcualations. I hope this info helps a little bit :)
Get the study guide!
You're right Amber - hate to be flagged as "doesn't follow instructions"! Will call though - perhaps they look at them later. I'm also interested in why you take the TEAS after orientation? And what if you score low on it? Granted you have all your pre-reqs done at that point, but curious.
waRN2B - I've heard similar stories re: rocks, etc. on the Science portion! timnug posted an online pdf of the McGraw Hill study guide for nursing students which covers material that may be on the TEAS, NET, etc. Free to down load too! Thanks for the great info!

I want to start by saying thanks to everyone. I got the macgraw study material today and I am glad I did. I need to brush up on the science. I went to the advisor today and she said my transcripts are competative but since I did not take a general A&P I might have to have that before I take the human A&P lab. Thanks for the advice about voluteering I will look into that. I am sure it will only help my application.
They sell a Teas study guide at att.com. They say it helps. I am still working on getting in. I'm retaking the teas, and retaking a few classes to up my score. I already have a 3.5 GPA. But I also have 4 kids, and it's hard to ace everything. Good luck. I've taken the teas twice, got good enough scores, but I'm going to retake again to get them even higher.

Thanks for the tips Amber! One of the schools I'm applying to doesn't have an entrance exam up front, though I've heard you take it after you've been accepted and the day of orientation. Another has you take a test (different that above school) as part of the application process, and it counts as a % of the application "score" for ranking applicants.
I wonder if adding some of the things you mentioned would be helpful or harmful, if it's not requested as part of the school's specific process. One school just has a one sheet application with basic student information (name, address, colleges attended, felony conviction?) - nothing else! Not sure about the other school yet.
Good luck Idont Wana Growup (me either, btw!),
