How can I get into OB-GYN????

I am going to be in my 2nd year of nursing school this coming fall and will graduate around May next year. I am wondering how I can get be hire by the Ob floor. I have heard that the hospital won't take any newbies on the Ob floor.

But my question is if you are new and you don't have experience, how can you ever get to work on the OB floor?

I know I will get some chances to work on the Ob floor in the coming semester but I doubt that I can get much experience from only a few weeks of clinicals.

I am just hired as a CNA in a NF, so there is no way that I can volunteer or be a CNA on the OB floor.

I would say it might depend on how well you do in your OB rotation. Most hospitals would like you to have one year on Med-Surg to develop your nursing skills. That is the "experience" they are looking for. As you go through your OB rotation, you will get a better idea if that is the area you will want to be in. OB is hard work, it is not always "fun". It requires quick thinking and includes ALL of the body systems. Some patients have cardiac problems, renal problems, diabetes, etc. You should know how to take care of these areas as well as the OB aspect.
