How to become a Nurse Practioner?

Published

I've been googling around info on which path to take to become an NP. I'll be done with my BSN in March 2013 and I don't wan to stop. Question: What path should I take to become an NP?

Thanks.

What do you mean which path? Decide which type of NP you want to be and then start researching schools that offer a program for that.

I agree a lot of it depends on what type of NP work you want to do. Are you planning on working as an RN while you're in school?

There are a lot of questions you need to answer. How much experience do you want prior to going to school? What do you want to do as a NP (peds? Geriatrics? Family? etc)? This will help you to decide what type of program you want. How you want to fund your education? What is important to you in your program? Doctorate or Masters? There are many more questions, but those will be a good start for you start getting an idea of what types of programs you want, and when you want to be able to start them. Then go research programs and try to identify a plan to get accepted into the program you want when you want.
