In February 2011 a new medical center will be completed only five minutes away from where I live! Yay! I won't be finished with nursing school by then, but I'll be a CNA (because that's needed to apply for school) and EMT (because I think it would like to work in the ED and I thought that might make me more marketable) and I really hope to get a job as an ED tech. Not only would it be GREAT to get my feet wet with something other than home health (I currently work as a home health aid), but I also hope that working as a tech will increase my chances of eventually getting an RN job there. Once I am an EMT I plan (hope) to volunteer with the Red Cross to gain more experience. Do you have suggestions on what else I can do to make myself more marketable to a new medical center? Also, do you have any idea how far in advance they'll start taking applications? Anything from 8 months in advance to 6 weeks in advance wouldn't surprise me but I've been compulsively checking the internet thanks to an irrational fear that I'll miss it.
Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and a GREAT PLAN in place.
May I ask which state you reside in that all RN applicants need to be CNAs first??????
Good Luck, keep up the great job you are already doing.
