Specializes in ER.

Thinking about relocating to Pearland tx and working in Med center, have some general questions, first can someone tell me is pearland a decent place to raise a family ,(have a 7 year old boy), and how long is the commute from pearland to tmc when you work 7a-7p. I am curious about wages, I'm a ER RN with 12 years experience what would my base pay be, crunching the numbers seems like I need to make about $38-40 to maintain life style., Thanks in advance

I would not suggest Pearland at this time. There have been a lot of home invasions lately. I have freiends that live in Pearland that are currently looking to sell their homes and move.

Specializes in 0 as RN, 3 in ICU and Tele as Tech.

Also your current wage is a management salary in TMC. I know nurses that have 20 years of experience and am making $78,000... I only know of agency staff or per diem nurses that make that amount and currently most of the TMC hospitals are not hiring agency staff. There could be some, but I have worked at 3 of the big hospitals in TMC and am basing my numbers off of that. I'm not for sure where you are currently living but the cost of living is lower in Texas so maybe your #'s can be adjusted. HTH

Pearland is a great area but there has been some home invasions recently. I wouldn't deter you away from living in Pearland though because from what I hear, those invasions are in a certain subdivision and Pearland has became a bigger city now...

Well anywhere you move now and days there's going to be crime. I'm in the process of moving to Pearland myself in May, and the neighborhood that I'm relocating to seems pretty nice. The commute really depends on what time you leave in the morning. Genreally it takes me about 15-20 minutes to make it from Broadway (Pearland Town Center) to the med center but I know 288 gets pretty backed up in the morning and about 3-4 in the afternoon is when it starts getting hectic making it back home. But by 7 you should be fine, not too much traffic. Also Almeda runs the same way as 288 and will take you to the Med center, there's just a bunch of stop lights, but probably not as much traffic to deal with.

The Pearland area is growing quickly and has some really nice subdivisions with a wide range of prices. My daughter lives off Orem & 288 - 4 bdrm freestanding townhome... she bought it new for $110k. All projections indicate that the area will continue to grow. It is an easy commute not only to the med center, but downtown as well. My daughter can see Reliant stadium & the medical center from her upstairs windows! Traffic can be yukky during peak hours, but that is a fact of life in Houston no matter where you are.

Welcome to the Houston area!!!!
