Published

Hiiiii everyone! I know this is a little early but I am graduating this December and will be applying to houston nurse residencies and didn't see a forum for this 🙂 since applications start in a few months, just wanted to make this for more info! Does anyone know all the application opening dates for TCH, MH, Methodist, etc...?

Didn't get a residency spot this time around - BUT I did just get a job offer for an amazing RN I position with UTHealth Houston. It is at their Woman's Clinic as their Gyn/Onc RN. M-F, 8-5. No weekends, no holidays, and it is a salaried position with a great starting salary! Which means, even when the office is closed (like they are the week between Christmas and new years) I still get paid for that time. PLUS I have the option to work from home Thursdays and Fridays since they don't see Oncology patients on those days so I would only be working phone triage which I can do remotely. My last clinic saw on average 200 patients a day and you got sat 4-5 patients at a time and it was so stressful. This clinic only sees 3-10 patients a day and you only get sat 1 patient at a time since they are fully staffed (they have 3 infusion chairs, and I would be the 3rd nurse hired).
All of this is to say, if you didn't get a spot in a residency, there is still hope! Especially if you have even just a little experience.

Congratulations! How did you go about finding this position? Do the qualifications just not say more than 1 year experience?

Thank you!! I went and looked for hospital systems in the area that don't do nurse residency programs (like UT Houston and Texas Oncology) and stalked their pages for RN I positions. This one was listed as an RN I/II/III spot. So under experience it pretty much said no experience required, but your starting title/salary would be based off of the amount of experience you had! UTHealth Houston still has a few positions like this posted (I believe they are all for outpatient clinics as well) if you want to check them out!

any updates on TCH for nurse residency?

I think I already mentioned but I did get an offer at TMC, she sent me the official offer letter a couple days ago. out of curiosity I did ask about how the process is going and she said she's going down the list to send offer letters and stuff should still be going out this week and possibly next week. but nothing else I've heard

Hey congrats. I got an offer too from TCH. She sent me the official offer letter on Monday. She sent another email about background check. Check your portal to see if they need additional information , it required some from me, and after that I got the email from background check.

I got the rejection email for the PICU unit 😭

that might only apply to those who already got an offer, but I will keep my fingers crossed I'm one of those people!!

Nurse residency programs like Houston's are such a great opportunity for new graduates to transition into professional practice. For those of you planning out your residency applications or career steps, tools like a Concept Map Maker can help organize timelines, key milestones, and required certifications visually. It's a practical way to stay on track amidst all the details! Anyone else using similar tools to keep everything streamlined?

If anyone attended the mandatory meeting for memorial Hermann Memorial City on the 19 how long was it?

Anybody starting residency in HcA med center?
