Anyone completed a travel assignment in San Francisco? I'm at a loss here for housing. Will be working at CPMC. I'm somewhat familiar with the neighborhoods, but am having a hard time finding a good place that is short term, allows pets, and is furnished. I may sneak my pet in if I can't find anything.
Good, bad experiences you'd like to share while working in SF?
Thanks!

I stayed at Bayside Village in a small effeciency the first time and a 2bedroom the second. Don't remember their pet policy but the complex was nice and just off the Bay Bridge on Embarcadero, was an easy commute to St. Mary's near Golden Gate Park. Don't know what CPMC stands for but San Francisco isn't all that big. Company tried to put me down south but the appartments there were not very nice and I had heard some safety issues. Wish I could say this information was current, but it's almost 20 years old. St Marys was my second assignment starting in late winter or early spring 1990. Wow, time just flys by. Loved the city, met some great people and someday will take another assignment there. Parking was and probably still is the biggest headache. Put an ad in Craigslist for an room to rent near the hospital and take your bike. Might want to check with the hospital to see if they have a bulletin board where you can post a request. I'm sure there are nurses that could use an extra dollar or two. Good luck

Seems like there's a lot of cool places on Craigslist. What type of housing allowance are you working with ($$$)? Budget may be the issue?
As ERRNinMI asked why isn't your agency finding you housing?
My company tried to house me in Oakland and Pacifica. I said no, the only reason I want to go to SF is so I can live in the actual city.
Then they tried to house me at a few places in the Western Edition/NOPA area. One place was across the street from the projects and was pretty dangerous.
The housing stipend they are quoting me is 1675, which to me isn't high enough for SF. I'll only be making 30/hr (that's with blended rate..everything included...it equals about 30/hr)....which is a paycut. I know how much SF nurses make, it doesn't seem like a good deal.
I usually try to find an apartment on my own then tell my company please house me here. I seem to be better at finding places than my company. This time I'm getting the run around.
These agencies are becoming more and more greedy. It's going to get to the point where you will be better off going local agency and finding your own accommodations. What is rolled into your "blended rate"? This housing stipend is separate from the $30/hr hopefully? I don't blame you for not wanting to live in the projects. PM me who you are with, if you don't mind, so I can scratch these goofs off the list as well... Good luck to you and stand your ground!

I just finished an assignment in SF and had the same issues with finding housing. I ended up commuting from just south of Pacifica to the city, which wasn't a bad commute but by the end of the assignment I was over it! $1675 is really low for a housing stipend, especially if you were planning on trying to pocket a bit of that money. Try this website in addition to the usual classified options, http://www.sfholidayrentals.com. Good Luck!
