Hours worked? Just curious....

I'm just curious to know what hours a Home Health Care nurse works?? It seems (from reading posts) that most of you work during the day (typical 8-5) visiting pts. Could someone work evenings...like maybe 7pm- say 3am? I don't imagine visiting pts after 10pm.... but maybe if you only had 1 pt you were assigned to...how does that work, exactly? Do you pick your own hours?

Nursemelani.......with parents I get Dr.s orders, meds, and county to come in every six months to do assessment for nursing services, then submit all this along with my prior approval request to Albany medicaid..They ten in turn send me a proir approval # good for six months of billing for my services. It's a pain to start up.............crossing all the T"s and dotting all th I's, but once you get the rules and routine doen its fairly easy!! As far as medicaid # goes you request an application and then send it to them. What state are you working in?

I'm in California. So how do the parents find you?

nursemelani.............unfortunately it's mostly word of mouth of by nurses working with these clients and helping parents to locate more of us also parents/clients that are fed up here with the HH agencies having more control over certain issues or lack of privacy and advertising in local papers for Private duty nurse/medicaid nurses. I have recently seen something here on the internet of a site some people have started! It gives caregivers and clients a way to get in touch with each other by posting on a website....don't have too much info yet.....I think it's called americancaregivers.com.....don't hold me to that yet........will search through all my bookmarks and see if i can find it! I believe it's only in a few states so far......Georgia seems to pop into my head...I think Florida was coming. Just poped onto that site.not sure that is it,......will keep looking!!

At our agency we offer an evening position to cover the pm drsg changes, IV cases, overflow from the day, and/or admissions for those q 12 hr injections or IV cases. Typically normal visits done by 10 pm, then on call until 8 am the following morning. While on call you need to be available for those emergent situations ie: plugged foleys, infusion problems. It is a rare occurence that nuses are sent out in the middle of the night.

hi 4valeri

did you ever find the correct site ?

Hello. I am thinking of switching from Med/Surg oncology to HH. How far are your patients from each other? How are you reimbursed for mileage and/or expenses? What are the big differences from hospital nursing? Anything you can tell me would be great! I used to be in outside sales so the driving part is fine with me. Thanks!
