Assuming you actually get those two hours off (as opposed to most hospital nurses I know, who are lucky if they get 15 minutes), I would guess that some people do it because it does give you the opportunity to go out and run some errands that couldn't be accomplished within a one hour time frame. Or if they have young children at home, it might give them the time to run home or to their daycare and spend a little time with them, or meet up with hubby, etc.
See, it's about a half hour drive each way to where I live, so it's not really worth it to go home, especially with gas. Yeah my lunch is scheduled from 12 -2. It's the only job i've ever had to actually eat a lunch. But I'd rather work 10 hours somewhere and get paid for those two hours.

I have been working at an assisted living for 6 months. We have to take a 2 hour lunch so we only have an 8 hour day (7a - 5p). I did it because the hours were mon - fri, but they switched our schedules so now i'm tues-sat & the other nurse is sun - thur. Is it even worth it to do this? Would anyone else do it?
