I pasted this directly from lehigh valley hopital...does this mean an RN with 1 yr acute exp. will make 41$ per hr doing 12 hr weekend nights? How come it is so much higher than the regular day rate of around 22$ i think (wouldnt everyone want to do weekend nights if it paid this well?) lol
Weekend Program
This option is available to RNs with at least one year experience in an acute care facility during the past two years. The weekend rate for day shift (7:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m.) is $38.00/hr. The weekend rate for night shift (7:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m.) is $41/hr. Benefits include health insurance, life insurance, pension and tuition reimbursement.

Well, I work at Lehigh Valley Hospital and yes it is true, they make $40/hr for Fri-Sun (3 days 12 hr shifts 7p-7a). It is called the weekend option and you get 4 weekends off per year. They also have SAt-Sun option but then you work every weekend. It is a great option and they haqve a lot of people who do it. That is because regular staff only has to work every third weekend then. Most people dont like working weekends so that is why they do it. The catch is... they ususally hire from within house to fill these positions first and they have a waiting list to fill positions that are not available. You would have to start out as a regular staff member first and work your way into one of those positions. :wink2:

Actually, 4 weekends off per year is only one option and that one is 2x12's not 3 per weekend. I work the 3/4 weekends a month. I work Fri, Sat, Sun nights and get $41/hour. I also get free health insurance and all other benefits except...
NO SICK PAY, NO VACATION. So, if I call off for any reason I don't get paid. That is another part of the catch. It is a great program but it does not go without sacrifices. I miss out on a lot of things on the weekend. But that is life.
Either way, I won't be on weekends much longer since I'm going to the CC course in November.

You,re comparing the weekend rate to the New Grad rate. LVH gives very nice raises to RN's. I've always gotten >5% -- based on performance and I am a character
Still a pretty big difference though.

How long were you there before you got the 5% raise?
I've gotten >5% raise every year that I have been there. I got my first raise after ~ 6 months as a new RN because the GN rate went up. When the GN rate went up, everyone got a bump. Then in October we got our annual performance increase.
I still think they pay their nurses more, bit it's good to know that they give half decent raises.
You think who pays their nurses more?
